it feels like they're watching me

Following the recommendations in the Six Apart Guide to Fighting Comment Spam, I've changed my Comment Preferences to allow comments from both TypeKey and non-TypeKey users (with those from the former appearing immediately, while the latter must wait for approval).
Within a few minutes of updating the settings and templates on my blogs here, I was hit with about a half dozen spam attempts from non-TypeKey vermin. Fortunately, since I'm moderating them, none of the comments appeared on the site - but it felt almost creepy how fast they came after the change.
I know, I know - one of my co-workers has authored a great spam fighting plugin, which I should implement to save myself the trouble of deleting those unapprovable comments. I have no good answer for not having done this, other than the fact that I've barely any time to blog an actual entry, let alone install a plugin that takes more than a few minutes of brain power. Sigh.
Update 03/03/2005 9:05 AM: That was a short-lived experiment. After waking up to over 130 more spam comments that required deletion (and watching as more continued to come in even as I purged the existing ones), I'm back to only allowing TypeKey comments. Pffft.
